Office lighting has to meet task requirements for hours of screen work while keeping the room pleasant. The common planning reference is EN 12464-1.

Planning values (EN 12464-1, typical)

• Writing, reading, screen work: 500 lx maintained on the task area, UGR ≤ 19, CRI ≥ 80.
• Meeting rooms: 500 lx, with dimming for presentations.
• Corridors: 100–150 lx; reception desks 300 lx.

Approach

UGR depends on the whole layout, not only the luminaire — calculate it for the actual room. Anti-glare downlights and deep grille luminaires help keep the value down. Add light to walls and ceilings: rooms with lit vertical surfaces feel brighter at lower desk illuminance.

In reception and break-out areas the brief usually shifts toward hospitality: accent light, warmer colour temperature and track systems for flexible furniture layouts.
