Boutique hotel lobby and lounge, Southern Europe

Brief

A renovated hotel lobby with stone walls, timber joinery and a 4.2 m ceiling. Guests complained of glare from the existing downlights, and the stone appeared flat in the evening.

Solution

Anti-glare downlights with deep-set sources provide a low base level. Adjustable recessed spotlights graze the stone walls from a 0.6 m offset and accent the reception desk and lounge tables. Everything is 2700 K, dimmable in three scenes.

Result

The ceiling no longer draws the eye; the texture of the stone becomes the dominant feature in the evening scene.
